Estrella Mountain Community College Continued Accreditation

Estrella Mountain Community College sought continued accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (HLC) in 2001. The Institutional Self-Study Report was submitted in January 2002, and the College received its visit and team report in February. As a result of the North Central Association’s Evaluation Team visit and the recommendation from the review committee, Estrella Mountain Community College was granted continued accreditation for 10 years.

In the 2002 HLC Team Report, dated February 25-27, 2002, the Evaluation Team members indicated that they were impressed by Estrella Mountain’s strong commitment to student success. The College as a whole was recognized for the following strengths:

  • Community relationships and the special services provided
  • Orientation program for, and support of, its adjunct faculty
  • Thoughtful and rapid response to new initiatives
  • Pervasive use of technology in teaching and learning
  • Faculty-directed Center for Teaching and Learning
  • New Faculty Orientation

The team also wrote that the 2001-2002 Maricopa County Community College District Governing Board was strong, experienced and committed. In addition, the report noted that at that period in time, the financial viability of the Maricopa County Community College District was outstanding.
