HLC Self Study
Chapter 2 Graphic

Summary

Serving the diverse communities in western metropolitan Phoenix since 1992, Estrella Mountain Community College provides students with meaningful, engaging and transformative learning experiences. Initially awarded accreditation in 1997 from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, the College has spent the past several decades distinguishing itself as an innovative institution of higher learning focused on student success. Although the College has experienced dramatic growth and change during the past 10 years, the Institution has been able to seize opportunities and face challenges by focusing institutional planning efforts on access, retention and completion. Efforts were recently recognized when Estrella Mountain was listed by the Aspen Institute as one of the top 120 community colleges with outstanding academic and workforce outcomes.

The following chapter directly responds to concerns and opportunities for institutional improvement as delineated by HLC in the 2002 Team Report. The information provided demonstrates Estrella Mountain’s commitment to meeting the needs of its students, faculty, staff, and community stakeholders.
